Vaccinations

For over 2 centuries, people have been vaccinated against deadly diseases, ever since the world's first vaccine was devised against smallpox. At Springfield Pharmacy, we continually strive to ensure our community has both access and information to vaccinations. We proudly partner with the Pennsylvania Department of Health as well as local health departments in Delco, Bucks and York counties to provide vaccinations throughout our community.

During the pandemic, Springfield Pharmacy was one of the first to begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine, and by the end of 2022 had administered over 100,000 vaccinations.

Our team has always been advocates for getting vaccinated against preventable diseases. Not only to protect ourselves, but to protect those around us who are vulnerable such as children, the sick, and the elderly.

Vaccines for Children

Serving as one of the nation's most important contributors to health equity, the Vaccines for Children program helps ensure that all children have a better chance of getting their recommended vaccinations on schedule and staying healthy.

In 1989 – 1991, a measles epidemic in the United States resulted in tens of thousands of cases of measles and hundreds of deaths. When this epidemic was investigated, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that more than half of the children who had measles had not been vaccinated against measles, even though many of them had seen a healthcare provider. Cost of the vaccine was found to be a primary reason for children going unvaccinated even in families with a regular health care provider.1

Springfield Pharmacy is proud to have been the first independent pharmacy in the state of Pennsylvania that registered as Vaccines for Children provider. We believe that all children should have access to vaccinations, regardless of whether their parents or guardians can afford them. Since becoming a registered Vaccines for Children provider in 2022, we have administered over 4148 (non covid or flu) vaccinations.

All children under the age of 18 who meet at least one of the following requirements are eligible for the VFC program:

  • American Indian or Alaska Native
  • Medicaid-eligible
  • Uninsured
  • Underinsured

The VFC Program covers all vaccines included in the pediatric immunization schedules that are determined by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP):
